Plate Story Series: #ConvoPlate 219

66 passes, 19 cities, 16,239 miles… that’s just a taste of how far #ConvoPlate 219 has travelled.

In May of 2016, students of Assumption Catholic Secondary School organized the production of Beneath Our Skin. Written and directed by students of Assumption, Beneath Our Skin is a play devoted to raise awareness of and support the mental and emotional well-being of youth. The play was dedicated to the Paul Hansell Foundation

I decided to do my research and write a play to help people,” said Laural Samson, an Assumption student who received an Award of Excellence for Playwriting and Directing at the Sears Ontario Drama Festival. “To give them strength and support and know that they are not alone.”

In support of Mental Health Awareness Week, students from Assumption and Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) designed 30 #ConvoPlates. These plates were also showcased at the last public viewing of Beneath Our Skin. One of those plates, designed by student Manica Mejia, was taken on by David Rae, CEO of Bill Gosling Outsourcing. The Newmarket-based company really took the reins on #ConvoPlate 219 by passing it between co-workers among the office. It was an incredible demonstration of teamwork and shows what can happen when a group of dedicated people work together toward something they’re passionate about.  Above, Jolene Hansell, Vice-President of the Paul Hansell Foundation, poses with the plate with David Rae.

After travelling through seventeen different cities, the #ConvoPlate eventually made its way out of Ontario all the way to the Philippines, over 13,000 miles from Newmarket. Now that’s a pass! From the Philippines, it was so exciting to see #ConvoPlate 219 head over to the Bill Gosling Outsourcing office in the UK. Scotland, to be exact! Catriona Mundill, HR and Recruitment Team Leader at Bill Gosling Outsourcing, received the plate in Glasgow.

After a whirlwind of activity around the world, the #ConvoPlate has come full circle and now resides where it all started. Catriona passed the plate over to their UK Managing Director, who brought the plate back to Newmarket, Ontario on a recent trip. We can’t wait to see what the next stop is on this plate’s remarkable journey!
